Waterborne modified-acrylic resins have been used in light duty industrial applications for many years, with one of the most popular applications being direct to metal (DTM) coatings.
Historically, water-based acrylics did lag in some areas, notably in their barrier effect and adhesion performance. The barrier effect and adhesion balance has been difficult to achieve in waterborne systems, particularly when considering wet adhesion. Most commercial systems tested fell short in one or both of these performance tests.
Due to the industry’s increasing performance expectations for waterborne systems and the desire to lower the VOC levels of their coatings, there is a significant need to develop new polymers to improve the performance of incumbent resins in this space. To address the market need in this area, EPS has developed a novel, low VOC modified acrylic resin, EPS® 595, to deliver a unique balance of properties.
EPS® 595 has the traditional strengths of acrylic polymers while closing performance gaps in barrier effect and adhesion.
- Outstanding wet adhesion on multiple metal substrates.
- Barrier properties and high corrosion resistance.
- High gloss potential.
- VOC < 100 g/l
