Recorded Wednesday, October 31 – Presented by Eastman Chemical Company
The information highway is now on actual highways.
As automotive human-machine interface (HMI) technology increasingly puts drivers in real-time communication with vehicles and the rest of the world, OEMs need to reevaluate the materials they use for dash displays and smart systems.
Touch screens can be comprised of glass or clear plastic, but glass is difficult to curve and shape, is costly, heavy and has impact challenges that can affect occupant safety. Plastics, on the other hand, can enable 3D shapes more cost effectively at a much reduced weight, lower cost and with excellent impact performance. These inherent plastic capabilities enable design engineers to achieve the harmonious interior surfaces required by industrial designs; however, they require surface modification to achieve scratch, chemical, and fingerprint resistance.
Long known for low birefringence and other optical qualities in displays, cellulose ester chemistries are undergoing extensive testing for automotive HMI lens covers.
On October 31, join Eastman polymer experts Chris Scarazzo and Laura Weaver as they present “Low Birefringent Cellulose Acetate Propionates for Plastic Display Lens Covers,” and learn about Eastman TREVA™, a new cellulose-based engineering bioplastic that offers both high performance and reduced environmental impact. TREVA is chemically resistant, dimensionally stable and has excellent flow, BPA-free and low birefringence.
This webinar should be of interest to extruders, injection molders, thermoformers, designers, display manufacturers and OEMs as we discuss:
- How HMI is helping automobiles move from semiautonomous to fully autonomous interiors
- How OEMs are enhancing user experience by increasing smart surfaces that seamlessly fit with the rest of the car interior
- The importance of birefringence
- Why you need to consider chemical resistance in your polymers
- The advantages of cellulosic plastics with impact, heat, and weathering resistance
