Epoxy based paints are very well-established coating systems for metal protection in marine and protective applications. However, epoxy coating industry is faced with the constant challenge of providing solutions which can comply with emerging VOC regulations. To meet these challenges, the content of solvents and plasticizes in a paint formulation is reduced as much as possible. These high solid formulations experience difficulties in offering good balance of pot-life, dry time, viscosity and flexibility. While, the use of plasticizers which slowly leach out of coatings can cause the coating to decrease in flexibility over time, thus changing the performance properties of the coating.
In order to overcome those challenges, Evonik developed new amine curing agent technology, which allows to design ultra-low emission epoxy paints without compromising in handling or performance properties of traditional solvent born systems. Smart designed new curing agents exhibit low viscosity and build up properties very fast at ambient and low temperature. It needs little or no plasticizer for full cure, so that the coating is more likely to maintain their performance throughout their service life. At the same time, it yields high barrier properties, excellent flexibility and very good adhesion on metal.
In scope of this webinar we will demonstrate the handling and performance attributes of a novel amine curing agent technology which can provide solutions to develop ultra-low emission epoxy paints with sustainable high performance.
