The world of today faces high energy costs and a need for sustainable evolution. The COVID pandemic has also made it painfully obvious that we need to improve our supply chain wherever we can.
Especially in products with a high household penetration, even a small improvement will have a significant impact on all the above. At Sappi, we believe that we should not be afraid to challenge the way we are currently doing things, if it means we can make an impact for tomorrow.
In laundry detergents, for example, the transport of concentrated liquids in hard plastic packaging is naturally associated with suboptimal use of space and therefore inefficient logistics.
But what if we can eliminate the packaging altogether? What if we can make a detergent sheet instead, which is highly efficient to transport and can also be packed in paper?
Enter Valida, a natural cellulose capable of doing just that. Valida is a cellulose fiber, meaning it can be converted into a sheet with the right processing. Next to that, Valida is a highly refined fiber, giving it a lot of surface area and, more importantly, plenty of stabilizing potential. As such, it becomes possible to stabilized laundry detergent actives in Valida fibers, and then turn them into a sheet together.
Valida detergent sheets easily dissolve in the laundry machine, releasing all actives, and the fibers are biodegradable as well.
Doing laundry should be easy. It doesn’t get easier than throwing a sheet into the laundry before turning it on. It’s up to us to show the consumer what they don’t realize they need yet.
In this webinar, we will explore the details of solid detergents, why it is so attractive, and the potential possibilities it will open up if successful. We will also touch on current activities and estimated development timelines.
