Rick was a research leader in polyurethanes and polyolefins R&D for twenty years with Dow Chemical Company and participated in the invention and commercialization of a number of polymer products, including Michelin’s polyurethane run flat tire supports, Primacor™ ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers, maleic anhydride graft copolymer adhesive resins, xerogel vacuum panel insulation, Syntegra™ aqueous polyurethane dispersions, and Lifespan™ commercial carpet backing. While at Dow, he received the Robert E. Cramer Award for Excellence in Technical Development, the Thunderbolt Award for Concept Excellence, and the Best Paper Award at the Polyurethanes Conference.
He spent an additional thirteen years on Stepan Company’s innovation team, where he was the coinventor of a process for producing an antiplasticizer for PET bottle applications for Coca Cola, surfactants that provide improved cold-water cleaning, and polyester polyols with biorenewable content.
Rick spent the final six years of his corporate career as the Chief Technology Officer for Resinate Materials where he led development and IP for recycled and bio-renewable-content polyester polyols and dealt with over 60 projects with blue-chip global specialty chemicals players. Rick has 24 publications, 83 patents, and a variety of commercial products that have generated more than $100MM in revenue.
