Advanced silicone additives for reinforced and non-reinforced polyamide (PA) deliver excellent tribology performance and processing ease, while overcoming the drawbacks of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
Glass-filled PA compounds are widely used in automotive parts, industrial gears and bearings and moving parts in appliances and peripherals. These high-stress applications require a low coefficient of friction (COF), a property that has traditionally been supplied by PTFE additives. However, PTFE additives can:
• Negatively impact the mechanical properties of the material
• Increase the density of the material
• Pose a potential toxicity risk
Meanwhile, traditional PA materials – particularly glass-filled compounds – are known for processability issues, particularly higher extruder torque and reduced throughput. However, Dow Corning now offers two advanced silicone additives that solve these performance and processing issues for extruded and injection molded PA:
• Dow Corning® 31-441 Additive is a solid silicone polymer that excels at improving productivity through extrusion efficiency by decreasing screw torque and reducing internal melt temperatures. It delivers slip performance at lower loadings than PTFE, so mechanical properties are maintained.
• Dow Corning® HMB-1103 Masterbatch for PA systems is the company’s best-in-class tribology modifier for highly demanding applications that require a long-term reduction of COF and wear resistance. It is also effective at lower loadings than PTFE.

Dear Sir,
I am looking for an adhesion improving additive to ZYTEL 801. We would like to bond the Zytel to PDMS elastomer, using DC3145 RTV silicone.
The RTV silicone has a natural perfect adhesion to PDMS, but the adhesion to PA is more troublesome.
Could the Dow Corning® HMB-1103 Masterbatch be a functional adhesion promotor in this case?
