Consumer Views on Environmentally Friendly Products

The environment was identified as a key priority to both manufacturers and consumers in The Product Mindset 2013, an annual study carried out by UL. According to the report, both groups rank the environment as their #2 priority. And both groups also agree that “price is not a barrier, and consumers will pay more for eco-friendly products.”

However, the data also reveals that while manufacturers place a high level of importance on the environment, 40% of the consumers participating in the study feel that manufacturers are not doing enough to ensure environmentally friendly processes and end-products.

The experience of our industry experts is that quality rains supreme, and while people want environmentally friendly solutions, they still need them to work. Personal care industry expert Priscilla Taylor suggests that product formulators use more environmentally friendly ingredients and communicate the benefits of these ingredients to consumers.
