Plastics Boss Calculator
Various designs now require the use of bosses for inserts. The Boss Calculator can be used to determine if the diameter of the boss or insert is within design guidelines and safety factor being considered for the application. This tool, along with the Snap Fit and Thermal Stress & Expansion Calculators, has been made more interactive – a selected grade of resin will pre-populate the property information data needed to run the calculation. These tools can help identify the best combination of design and material selection to meet application needs.
Snap Fit Calculator for Plastics
The Snap Fit Calculator is most commonly associated with the design assembly of a part, where two or more components of the part need to fit together to assemble as one complete product. The design of the snap fit is especially important when the part is being designed for a multiple dis-assembly feature, where the snap fit will need to perform multiple times without any permanent deformation. The tool allows the user to select from various snap fit designs, as well as view a wide range of materials that will best perform in the design selected by the user. The snap fit tool will indicate if the design meets certain criteria or if there is a risk the design could fail.

Plastics Thread Failure Calculator
To get a quick assessment of proper screw design, the Thread Failure Calculator can be used. It’s a simple and effective tool to determine what level of force would be needed to pull out the screw based on the screw design, thread engagement and material shear strength. The tool assumes the screw is metal based, while the boss is plastic based.
