To address the needs underserved market for textured hair, Dow leverages the expertise of its employee resource groups and collaborates with its Global African Affinity Network (GAAN).
The scientific team worked in close collaboration with Black women from GAAN and developed a complete textured hair program to help deliver formulations with proven results. Dow employees with highly textured hair shared consumer insights, tested the formulations and helped connect the market gap with the broader societal issues. Dow experts leveraged their deep formulation and scientific expertise to develop not only formulations to meet the unique needs of people with highly-textured hair, but also appropriate test methods to scientifically validate performance on type 3 and 4 hair types.
The result is a prototype kit with six unique formulations, tested by women with textured hair and tailored to the specific needs of textured hair. From shampoos and conditioners to styling products and oils, the prototype kit contains a variety of hair care that provide benefits such as ease of combing and detangling, friction reduction and frizz control to Moisturizing and curl definition.
