Coatings – whatever their chemical nature – must ensure good protection of the substrate throughout its service life: durability is key. A durable coating should keep its original finish and require minimum maintenance, reducing the impact of the coating on the environment. Coating formulators have a challenging task: they need to offer a wide range of options – gloss, textures and haptic properties – combined with good application behavior, while reducing the VOC of their durable-coating formulations.
Orgasol® Polyamide 12, 6 and 6/12 spheroidal powders and Rilsan® Polyamide 11 bio-based powders are multi-functional additives which allow formulators to control the finish of the coating: glossy to matte and/or textured, smooth to rough, homogeneous to irregular.
Both additive ranges are long chain polyamides, which are recognized for their unique mechanical properties combining hardness and flexibility. On top of standard control of the finish properties, Orgasol® and Rilsan® polyamide powders impart unique mechanical properties to the coating: excellent abrasion, scratch and burnish resistance: all key properties for the durability of coatings.
The webinar will focus on mechanical property modification and improvement made by the use of polyamide powders in liquid coating formulations. The presentation will illustrate the action of these additives, data about their impact on mechanical properties and on the final applicative properties of the coating, focusing on the benefits for the final customer in terms of durability improvement.
