SupplySide West 2014 is over. Crates containing elaborate booth backdrops, product samples and conference tables are on their way back to their origins in Shanghai, Geneva, New York and everywhere in between. Just a few days ago, more than 1700 booths filled the Mandalay Bay expo hall in Las Vegas, showcasing ingredient technologies in the dietary supplement, food, beverage, animal nutrition, cosmetics, personal care, retail & distribution, pharmaceutical and sports nutrition markets. Today, the Mandalay’s polished concrete floors are likely covered by some other convention’s carpets. But the show’s hottest offerings will live on in cyber space in this look back at one of the biggest food industry trade shows in the world.
NadaNut Products from Inclusion Technologies, LLC
Inclusion Technologies, LLC showcased their entire line of NadaNut products within the Ampak Company booth. These 100% nut-free analogs are available in pecan, walnut, pistachio and cashew flavored products. NadaNuts are nut allergen-free, made using wheat germ, and are a lower cost replacement or extender of nuts in formulations.
Pycnogenol from Horphag Research
Horphag Research (EU) presented fascinating findings on Pycnogenol (EU), a natural antioxidant plant extract from French maritime pine tree bark. In June, a new study published in Minerva Medica discussed the link between Pycnogenol supplementation and a significant improvement to inner-ear blood flow. This is just one more in a laundry list of benefits the antioxidant has been shown to provide.
INNOBIO Limited’s Functional Ingredients
INNOBIO Limited (EU) gave trade show visitors a look at two of their featured natural ingredients, INNOBIO® Astaxanthin (EU) and INNOBIO Vegan Instantized BCAA (EU) (branched chain amino acids).

The study, performed by the University of Medical Sciences in Mashhad, Iran, showed the combo had considerable benefits in the management of knee osteoarthritis.
Whey Protein & a Website from Agropur Ingredients
Exhibition-goers had the opportunity to taste two on-trend whey protein concepts created by Agropur’s (EU) technical and communications teams – Firecracker Protein Popcorn Coating and Watermelon Cream Hydrolysate. The company also used SupplySide West as a platform to launch www.agropurHW.com, a sister-site to the main www.agropuringredients.com website. The site caters to technically-minded, hands-on nutritional brand customers.
CP Kelco’s Hydrocolloids
CP Kelco showcased a pectin-based gummy vitamin, Orange Sunrise, that has increased stability at high temperatures. With a portfolio of over 4500 products, visitors to the company’s booth learned about the five main categories of hydrocolloids they offer and their functional benefits, including viscosity modification, thickening, suspension, stabilization and gelation.
Bars & Beverages at BI Nutraceuticals
Tired attendees had the chance to recharge and learn about the functional ingredients in the goodies at the BI Nutraceuticals booth. The company presented a Sugar Cane Fiber Bar, featuring BI sugar cane fiber; Pineapple Coconut Water, with BI’s energy blend of Guayusa, green tea and yerba mate; and Beet & Berry Lemonade, a combination of beet root powder, acai, blueberry, cranberry and pomegranate fruit extracts.
Glanbia Nutritional’s Simple Probiotic Bar
Visitors to Glanbia Nutritional’s (EU) booth had the opportunity to try several products made with their most innovative new food and beverage ingredients. One that is worth noting: The Simple Probiotic Bar. Made with only six ingredients to satisfy the clean label trend, it’s an excellent source of ALA-omega 3. Glanbia’s recipe includes BarPro™ (EU) partially hydrolyzed milk protein concentrate, BevGrad® Chia (EU), and Ganeden BC30®, a shelf-stable probiotic with 15 billion cfu/g.
Ganeden Biotech’s GanedenBC30
Ganeden Biotech (EU) experienced a lot of buzz at this year’s show. Their patented probiotic ingredient GanedenBC30 (EU) is a key ingredient in two products named finalists in the SupplySide CPG Editor’s Choice Awards: The Cookie Department’s Cherry Bomb cookie and KeVita’s Blueberry Tangerine and Hibiscus Berry probiotic sparkling drink. The ingredient was also the subject of a recent study that demonstrated benefits in supporting both digestive and immune health in HIV subjects.
Mag-nifique™ Flavor Modifiers from Wixon

The flavor modifiers can be used to reduce sugar, improve mouthfeel, mask off-notes and more.
TeaCrine™ from Compound Solutions
Formulators interested in sports nutrition applications learned about TeaCrine, a natural energy ingredient. TeaCrine consists of theacrine, a purine alkaloid harvested from the leaves of the Camellia Kucha plant, which increases neural drive and supports natural metabolic processes to help prepare the body for more intense, longer-lasting workouts.
