Lubrizol Engineered Polymers has expanded its flame-retardant ESTANE® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) portfolio for cables thanks to the development of innovative, durable polymers with zero halogens (ZHF). ESTANE® ZHF is the name of the TPU series which includes several new flame-retardant developments that meet UL and VDE requirements. The new, Lubrizol engineered polymers are applied in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging cables, and other specialty applications like cables for robotics and communication.
Lubrizol offers a wide range of high-performing ESTANE® solutions to cable and connectors manufacturers to meet demands for lower flame spread, lower toxicity/smoke generation, and low gas conductivity. High-heat resistant TPU grades are available.
Lubrizol TPUs are recyclable* and improve the processability in the manufacture of most cables.
New ESTANE® ZHF TPU products with very good flame performance also include:
- ESTANE® ZHF 90AT8: Ideal for robotic and communication cables.
- ESTANE® ZHF 58202: For easy processability and low gas conductivity
- ESTANE® ZHF 58370: Very easy processability and extremely low gas conductivity in compliance with IEC 62893 and EN 50620 standards for EV charging cables.
- ESTANE® ZHF 58211: Very good thermal resistance and easy processability
- ESTANE® ZHF 85AT8 MATT: It features a matt surface.
As the inventor of TPU, ESTANE® specialties set the mark for performance and quality. With more than 60 years of experience and a worldwide network that includes formulation design, manufacturing, R&D and cutting-edge technologies, Lubrizol offers one of the broadest portfolios of engineered polymers available today.
